The Juhuri language
An Iranian language of the Caucasus: three alphabets in one century, a dictionary of 2 277 words and a word trainer.
Juhuri, the language of the Mountain Jews, belongs to the south-western group of Iranian languages and has been spoken in the villages of Dagestan and northern Azerbaijan for centuries.
Within one century it was written in Hebrew letters, then in Latin, then in Cyrillic — few languages have changed script so often.
UNESCO lists Juhuri among endangered languages. The museum keeps a Juhuri–Russian dictionary of 2 277 words, with a letter index and a word trainer.
